Welcome to the LalafofofJunior Executive Committee

Lalafofofo welcomes newly appointed members to its inaugural Junior Executive Committee (JEC) for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Lalafofofo’s mission is to provide American youths opportunities to be involved with service projects in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, East Africa.

The first monthly meeting of the JEC was held Sept. 18, 2016 and featured guest speaker Gordon Carver, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Silverleaf Academy in Tanzania, winner of a Human Development Innovation Fund (DFID) start-up grant specifically for new innovations within Tanzania. Dr. Carver spoke to JEC members about his organization and new schools being opened for low to middle income families in Kilimanjaro, focusing on alternative education models such as informal private schooling, online learning platforms, skills-based programs and alternative delivery models that are contributing to the reach of education across Africa. These schools use innovative teaching on a tablet-assisted curriculum to help facilitate innovative partnerships that build sustainable and impactful education programs across Sub Saharan Africa.A training and strategy day is scheduled for October 9, 2016 for JEC members, which will concentrate on coaching and preparation, information sharing, group work, planning and input regarding priorities for the JEC’s first year.If you have any questions about the Junior Executive Committee, the program, or the organization, please feel free to contact any of the individuals below:

The role of the Lalafofofo Junior Executive Committee is twofold:

1. To provide insight, input, outlook and guidance to the Board of Directors, from the perspective of young adults on matters relating to development issues and service opportunities, particularly in the Kilimanjaro area of Tanzania and throughout Tanzania. This may be achieved through proposing ideas for projects, assessing current projects and service opportunities, recruitment of young volunteers and liaising with existing contacts in the region.

2. To serve as ambassadors of Lalafofofo by contributing to the spirit and motivation of the board through innovation, participation, and volunteering activities that support the work of the board.If you are interested in applying to become a member of the LalafofofJunior Executive Committee, please request application documents from one of the board members listed above.  If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Lalafofofo Junior Executive Committee, please request an application packet from one of the board members listed above.
