Emma doettling

Emma is a rising junior at the University of Michigan studying Philosophy, German and International Studies with a concentration in International Security, Norms and Cooperation. On campus, she is a writer for the Michigan Daily newspaper and plays intramural soccer in her free time. Emma became involved with the Lalafofofo Junior Executive Board in high school and traveled to Tanzania with a group to help teach at a primary school. In 2020, she is working on writing a girls empowerment camp for next summer.

JON STANDLEE

Jon is a senior at Carlmont High School in Belmont, California. He plays lacrosse and water polo, and enjoys meeting new people. Jon is interested in majoring in International Studies and has been involved with Lalafofofo for five years, including two volunteer trips to rural Tanzania. As a Summer Intern in 2020, Jon researched the economic and cultural impact of home solar installation in rural Tanzania.

Carolyn Wang

Carolyn is a senior at Carlmont High School in Belmont, CA. She enjoys dance and speaks English, Mandarin, and Spanish. Carolyn has traveled to Spain, France, China, and Iceland and is active in her school’s student government and dance program. In 2020, she is working on creating videos that explain the current projects that Lalafofofo is working on.

SADIE MEYERCORD

Sadie is a senior at Saint Francis High School, where she participates in theater, environmental club, and various honors societies. This summer, she is working with the Girls Scholarship Program to create a summer camp for the girls and create picture books about the girls’ lives.

MADELINE STANDLEE

Madeline is a Sophomore at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA. She enjoys beach volleyball and loves to cook, and is currently learning Spanish. Maddie has traveled to Tanzania, Belize, and Costa Rica and is a member of her Student Senate at Claremont McKenna. Throughout the summer of 2020 she is working on creating videos summarizing Lalafofofo’s current projects, and managing social media. Her favorite swhili word is “asante” meaning “thank you.”
