Reproductive Health Education Program
June - December 2022
Theory of Change
Factual and culturally competent reproductive health education is crucial to increasing educational attainment, employment opportunities, and financial security and eliminating gender inequality, reducing rates of infectious diseases within Maasai communities and around the world. By providing safe and educational spaces for Maasai girls and women to learn about their bodies, LFAS hopes to empower our partners to achieve their own goals.
Goals
1. Develop a reproductive health curriculum that is factual and culturally appropriate for Maasai students.
2. Provide a safe-space for Maasai students to learn and ask questions.
3. Empower Maasai girls and women with knowledge of their own bodies and build community among themselves.
4. Improve and maintain the overall health of young Maasai mothers and their children.
Culturally Aware Curriculum
This 2022 pilot program proposes three separate cohorts with tailored curriculum approaches that are age-appropriate: 14 Girls Scholarship members, 45 young mothers (ages 16-18) in Tindigani (WASH members), upper-primary school students in Mlima Shabaha and Tindigani. The curriculum includes the following sections, not every subject will be taught in each cohort since lesson plans have an age range:
Reproductive Health & Anatomy
Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Gender & Equality
Rights & Citizenship
Physical & Emotional Wellbeing
Asante sana to our Program Manager, Nicole Pires, and our Spring 2021 interns for developing our Reproductive Health Curriculum.
